I took some time to reflect and ponder on the music industry's biggest and grandest awards show which took place this past Sunday night. So, let's talk Grammys! Don't ask me how Elton John with dirt on his face and some Kanye West rejected sunglasses moved me more that Green Day, but it's true.

Unless there is a Broadway law that requires high energy music to be transformed into yawn inducing ballads, Green Day's performance was unacceptable. Please note that there appears to be massive amounts of camel toe, specifically at the 1:11 mark. Someones hungry for fabric. Also, there where a lot of people on stage, but they didn't do anything. The point was...to say "ahhhhhhhhh" and fist pump. The cast of The Jersey Shore could of done that. Hell, I CAN DO THAT! Sign me up! I'm Broadway bound! Not for American Idiot though. The play looks like it sucks. If you have to get all "ballad with it", at least hang from stuff while looking naked.
Yes, Pink's performance deserves much respect.
Sheryl Crow was assigned the task of bringing Bon Jovi on to the stage and either she is not fluent in reading a teleprompter, or they entered the information wrong. She said that you could still vote on what song you want too see Bon Jovi perform, then they came on 2 seconds later. Are we supposed to believe that was spontaneous? Technically, I guess you COULD have still voted. It just would have not counted. The fans voted on "Living On A Prayer". Look for a pop kiss at the 7 minute mark. If I was his wife, I would of ran on stage and popped that chick myself in an entirely different way. Here is Jamie Foxx and a bunch of other people..and then Slash. Feel free to fast forward to the 4:28 mark, because that's when Slash finally put us out of our misery. I'm just trying to spare you a lot of bad lip singing, auto-tune and some opera nonsense. Finally, AC/DC won the first Grammy of their career when they won the best hard rock performance award for the song "War Machine". Of course, despite being from one of the biggest selling albums in the past year, they were "honored" with the award during the non-televised portion of the show, which is reserved for the "acceptable," though often lesser selling artists.

AC/DC are a case in point about just how out of touch with the record buying public that the Recording Academy and thus the Grammy Awards really are. Consider that this is their first Grammy, given to them 30 years after they released "Back In Black", which holds the honor of being the biggest selling album by a band across the globe (second biggest selling album of all behind Michael Jackson's Thriller) and the fifth largest selling album in the United States. They didn't receive their first Grammy nomination until 1989, when they lost out to those hard rockin' flute playing badboys of Jethro Tull. In case you were wondering, Christopher Cross took home the top honors in 1980.

Consider for a moment that both AC/DC's latest album "Black Ice" and Beyonce's "I Am Sasha Fierce" was certified double platinum. So each album was just as popular with fans, but who got all of the attention by the Grammy folks? What about the album that won the Rock Album honor? Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" has only been certified gold (500,000 copies sold), a fourth of the amount of AC/DC. And let's not forget the "Record Of The Year," Kings Of Leon's "Use Somebody", which has only gone platinum, thus it sold half as many copies as AC/DC's "Black Ice".

I point all of this out, using this one example to simply show how meaningless awards like the Grammys really are, when they are basically as credible as a high school election. But the real award that counts is at the cash register where the fans place their votes and while artists like AC/DC might not get their due among the self congratulating music insiders, the fans continue to honor them with their loyalty and that is worth far more than a silly statue.
