National Night Out Against Crime
The Margate Police Department will be hosting its Eighth Annual National Night Out (NNO) at the Margate Sports Complex, located on Banks Roads between Copans Road and Coconut Creek Parkway, on Tuesday, August 5th 2008 between 7pm and 10pm. The National Association of Town Watch selected the City of Margate as National Award winner in 2004, 2005, 2006 and the 2007. National Night Out Against Crime is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
The event will offer free hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, refreshments and children's carnival rides. We will also be distributing free gun locks while supplies last. There will be many military and law enforcement displays, including: military vehicles from each branch of the Armed Forces; a fly over by the U.S. Coast Guard; Broward Sheriffs' Office and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) helicopters; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) drug sniffing dog; a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) armored personnel carrier; Margate Police Department K-9 Unit demonstrations; Margate Fire Rescue's Fire Prevention Classroom; law enforcement boats; and Fraternal Order of Police Bagpipe and Drum Corps. Florida's #1 DJ, Platinum Gold Entertainment will be providing live entertainment and 93 ROCK will be provided prizes and free gear. Also, children and youth can have a free photo taken on a Margate police motorcycle. Come and meet "Billy the Marlin" and "Ronald McDonald". WSVN 7's own, Derek Hayward is the keynote speaker.
There will be free parking located near the Sports Complex.
National Night Out is an excellent opportunity for the entire family to come out and enjoy the displays and activities, meet members of the U.S. Armed Forces, federal, state and local law enforcement officers, security companies, as well as officials from the City of Margate.
